Calderdale Council confirmed the news on Friday 29th July
After campaigning for over 5 years, we are now a huge step closer to realising our dream. It’s incredible how much of a difference one little word, “permit”, can make. It’s been a long and often frustrating process, fraught with challenges and hurdles that we have had to overcome. We simply couldn't have got to where we are today without the unwavering support of the local and wider community, who have helped us to raise over £1.2m towards a £3.3m funding target.
Our new build cannot come soon enough, as we look forward to the challenge of welcoming 167 students through our doors in September 2016; doors to a building meant to accommodate just 69 learners!
So what happens next? Our architects will now prepare tender documents which will be distributed toapproved contractors in the coming weeks. Once a contractor is chosen, a programme of works will be drawn up and we remain hopeful that work on site will commence towards the end of 2016. With a projected 40 week build period, we would hope that an Autumn 2017 official opening remains achievable.
The centre, as we have always intended, will have far reaching benefits not just for our post-16 students but for the whole Calderdale Community. Exciting times lie ahead in the coming weeks and months.
