Chris, Dave and Tim pedal their way to £700 for Ravenscliffe@SpringHall

On Saturday 2nd April, Chris Belfield, Dave Foster and Tim Richards from Covéa Insurance’s Claims Motor Engineers team braved the rain and wind to cycle the 50 mile Wiggle Vale Vélo Sportive, raising funds for Ravenscliffe@SpringHall.

Joining hundreds of other cyclists, the route headed east from York, looping through picturesque villages to Stamford Bridge and Pocklington, before tackling the ascent of the day up Givendale Hill, with two miles of continuous climbing onto the very top of the Yorkshire Wolds. Making good time on undulating roads across the tops, the route crossed the summit of Garrowby Hill swathed in low cloud, before continuing north on the Roman Road. Then there was the quick descent off the Wolds, followed by a very quick descent into the village of Leavening, testing riders and brakes to the limit on the wet roads.

Next was the feed station at Burythorpe where energy levels were topped up, before the route turned back westwards. With 18 miles still to go the ride had a few challenges left to throw up in a series of long climbing drags into the wind, before turning onto some more sheltered roads for the final few miles to the finish line.

The team crossed the line together and were rewarded with medals and protein bars all round, before posing for one final photo and heading for the pub to celebrate their achievement.

The real success of the day though was raising over £700 for Ravenscliffe (including match funding from Covéa Insurance) – thanks to everyone who sponsored them, making all that effort worth it!
