When we first launched our campaign, following a feasibility study in November 2013, we were faced with a mammoth task. Calderdale Council had very kindly committed £1.6m to the project, however initial architects estimates suggested the cost to build the centre was closer to £2.4m. By the time construction commenced in June 2017, this figure had risen to £2,806,821 just to simply build the centre. We also needed to find an estimated £500,000 to equip the centre to the highest standards.
What ensued was a huge fundraising drive involving literally thousands of people from the local and wider community. Our collective efforts raised in excess of £1,800,000 to allow the centre to be built and equipped, which is simply astonishing.
This was achieved through applications to grant making bodies, community events, individual donations and our incredible corporate partners.
