A message from our Headteacher....

It is a privilege to have been appointed as the new Headteacher of Ravenscliffe High School from September 2020 onwards. This is my third headship, although the trickiest start in many ways, due to the restrictions of the Covid pandemic, and ensuring the paramount safety of all staff, students and our wider community. We are currently operating in needs based bubbles, with key staff associated to that bubble for the majority of lessons.

Ravenscliffe High School is a thriving school, and the numbers of students on roll have continued to rise year on year. The school now operates over two sites, with Key Stages 3 and 4 being based at Skircoat Green (the original school site). Since September 2018, Post 16+ has been based at Spring Hall, an amazing purpose built facility with community café etc.

The majority of our students continue to transfer from one of Calderdale's two primary special schools (Highbury and Woodbank). However, in more recent years an increasing number have also transferred from mainstream schools and other schools outside the authority.

Ravenscliffe’s personalised curriculum offer is delivered by a team of well qualified, dedicated teachers and support staff. Students are generally taught in chronological year groups, with an average class size of ten to twelve. The vast majority of students access all core and other relevant national curriculum subjects, effectively differentiated to their level of ability. The students with the most complex needs follow a highly bespoke curriculum based around early stages of development, particularly communication and independence. All students in school have a clear focus on working towards their personalised outcomes as identified within their Education Health Care Plans.

The school places a strong emphasis on students being actively involved in the community, developing independence skills and promoting appropriate inclusion opportunities. The school’s “Springboard” employability programme works in conjunction with over forty local employers to provide students with vocational based experiences and relevant opportunities during extended weekly work based placements. Our travel training programme has also enabled over a hundred students in the past decade to become fully independent in their travel across Calderdale. On average, two - five school leavers each year have traditionally been supported into paid employment.

In summary, we aim to enable all students access to relevant and fun learning opportunities, support them to maximise their achievements and effectively prepare them for their future lives.
