Within science, students are encouraged to work co-operatively on shared practical investigations where the emphasis is on finding out through experimentation. The National Curriculum is delivered in units, where scientific enquiry is complimentary to work concerning life processes and living things, materials and their properties and physical processes. All students have opportunities to join in practical activities, which will include access to science through personal exploration using a sensory approach.

Investigation of the materials is of a level appropriate to individual needs and abilities. Students are encouraged to make conclusions based on their findings and extend their understanding through problem solving. The materials used to explore science are familiar and affect the students everyday lives. In this way scientific concepts become relevant and meaningful.
